Eucalyptus

There aren’t many Eucalyptus trees in the park. In fact the only ones I can think of, at the moment, are the ones on the main field near the car park and the ones leaning over at one end of the pond.

I was once told that the ones on the main field are Cider gums, E. gunnii, but in fact they are Snow gums, E. pauciflora. The difference is that cider gums have oval, or quite rounded, leaves but the ones on the field have lanceolate leaves – pointed at both ends like a spear-head. There are probably other differences such as in the bark which quite often peels off and is various shades of grey-green with whiter patches where it has peeled.
